Out on DVD today, 27 Dresses is a very funny and adorable romantic comedy. I am a huge fan of Katherine Heigl, and she is actually very funny in this! I managed to see it twice while it was out in theaters, and will probably end up buying it. What can I say? I'm a sucker for chick flicks!

The first time I can across A Good Year, I didn't watch the entire thing. My parents had it on, and I just wasn't very interested. Then, a few weeks later I stumbled across it on HBO and decided to give it another chance. It's not fantastic, but it's very cute. Russell Crowe's wardrobe in the movie is very irritating to me, but aside from that he is very good. Great soundtrack with lots of  cool French music. If you've seen La Vie En Rose, you'll get a chance to see what the gorgeous Marion Cotillard really looks like! Charming movie, good rental.

Although I have heard that the book is much better, The Other Boleyn Girl memorized me. Natalie Portman's portrayal of Anne Boleyn is definitely a performance to remember. I was a big fan of Anne of The Thousand Days (made in 1969), and the story has always peaked my interest. I thought this was a completely breathtaking movie, and I saw it twice while it was playing in theaters. Just a note: the story focuses much more on Anne and not as much on her sister Mary, as the film is advertised. Still, I completely loved every minute of this juicy age-old story.

I rented Martian Child, starring John Cusak, on a whim and fell in love with it from the moment it started. As a matter of fact, the next day, I went out and purchased it. It is a great family movie, touching and heartwarming. It's about a science fiction writer who adopts a little boy who's totally convinced he's from Mars. I found an immediate connection with the characters, who are very easy to love. Based on a true story. Watch it with a box of kleenex.

(Rated PG)

La Vie En Rose is quite possibly the most amazing movie I personally have ever seen. Marion Cotillard's portrayal of Edith Piaf won her the Academy Award for Best Actress this year, and she deserved it. Her breath-taking performance will haunt you for days. I don't think I've ever cried so hard at a movie in my entire life. Highly recommend it, but be warned that it is extremely depressing so you must be in the right mindset to watch it a movie as heavy as this. Fantstic.

(Rated PG-13)

Into the Wild, starring Emile Hirsch, manages to be both heartbreaking and heartwarming. This beautiful film is based on the life of Christopher McCandles, a college graduate who drops out of society and hitch-hikes to Alaska. The story takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotion, and you will surely fall in love with the friends he makes on his journey towards freedom. Very powerful, moving, and intense...I highly recommend it. (Once again, watch it with a box of kleenex nearby).

(Rated R)

I saw Shutter in theaters a few weeks ago. Despite the fact that most current scary movies are extremely lame, I always have to see them with secret hopes that they might actually be good. This however, was exactly what I expected...LAME. Joshua Jackson was terrible, and quite frankly once you've seen one of these terrible Americanized Japanese horror flicks, you've seen
them all. Don't recommend it unless you want a good laugh.

(Rated PG-13)

I'm a sucker for these cheesy movies. Superhero Movie was actually better than the trainwreck I expected it to be. I only wish Regina Hall could have been in it more...she cracks me up but only had a very small cameo. Extremely stupid humor, and if you're a fan of the Scary Movies 3&4 (the Waynes Brothers did the first 2 which had a not as terribly stupid feel), you'll get a kick out of this.

(Rated PG-13)

I was definately a bit disappointed with Stop-Loss. I thought that the second half of the movie was pretty lame compared to the first half, which was very intense and good. Aside from the obvious man-candy, the movie had potential to be great, but I ended up just not really caring for it. I sympathized with Ryan Phillippe, but I just didn't really connect with any of the characters. Eye-opening and sad, but just not as great as it could have been.

Juno recently came out on DVD, starring Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, and Jason Bateman. I purchased it on the day it was released. I absolutely love this movie. Ellen Page is fantastic and Michael Cera is insanely cute. I loved this from the moment it started, it was funny and sweet. It also has an amazing soundtrack, featuring lots of Kimya Dawson music. Extremly lovable film!

Last night I rented Guillermo Del Toro's The Orphanage (El Orfanato) which was very good. It was a very creepy drama/horror/mystery flick with a Pan's Labyrinth-like overall feel. It had a bit of a slow start, but once the story got going it was like trying to piece together an eerie puzzle. Great startling moments, but not an edge-of-your-seat thriller. It's a great movie for a rainy evening on the couch.

This afternoon I saw Baby Mama with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. I must say I was a bit disappointed considering how much I love the two of them. It definitely is not as funny as advertised, but it's very cute. Worth watching, but I recommend renting it not paying for it in theaters.
